Character building is important work within the life of the school. Character is not a religion; it transcends, gender, nationality, and age, because it is linked to the conscience. The conscience is the soul’s voice of warning system. The conscience holds all of us accountable to the highest standard we have been taught about right and wrong.
The conscience can be desensitized through media programs showing lots of violence. Desensitizing the heart of a child can take place through continually killing small human beings on a video game. The entertainment industry is guilty of destroying the lives of children. However, parents are equally held responsible for allowing children to spend time with such instruments.
May we, with great respect, ask you to turn the TV AND VIDEO GAMES OFF! Children will not get the positive impact of Tabernacle if they are distracted by the media and addicted to video games.
We send children to the office for being good! This is just the opposite of what most schools do. We want the emphasis to be on goodness. We love catching children being good. We love sending them to the office, and they get greeted with incredible enthusiasm. We take their picture, put it on the Character Wall, and send a postcard home to you. Great Joy! If it is a young child, they are invited to get a toy out of the treasure chest.
The following explains our character traits: Responsible, respectful, compassionate, cooperative and courageous. Children are sent to the office on the basis of exhibiting any one of these character expressions.
